Hearty exchanges in Cardiff

While travelling with my spiritual master, I had an opportunity to go on book distribution at Cardiff central.

On October 7th, I met Mike, who'd already met devotees and gotten a Bhagavad Gita. He read it a long time ago. I tried to inspire him to read it again and try to chant the maha-mantra. Mike agreed, saying that he feels like getting back into it. I suggested that he get Srimad Bhagavatam (1.1). He happily agreed and suggested he would go to get some donation for it. A couple of minutes later he brought back 20 GBP, which would be enough for four books. I thanked Mike for the generous donation and invited to come to the soon-to-open Atma cafe and yoga lounge.

Several minutes later, in a conversation with an Asian student, I noticed a man standing behind me and listening.

When I said goodbye to the student, he approached me with a question: “What's this all about?”

“Stress relief, yoga, meditation,” I replied, thinking he would turn away.

To my surprise he asked: “Is it just stress relief or something deeper?”

Soon I realized that he is a real seeker. He is already doing mantra meditation but now is looking for genuine knowledge. He asked many intelligent questions about our regulative principles, character development, karma and liberation.

I asked him whether he had an invitation to the cafe, since that night Devamrita Swami would be speaking there. He replied regretfully he could not come.

“You see, I'm still in prison. I have six months to go, so they let me out during the day, but now I have to go back. When I get out, I want to come to this place.”

I handed Bhagavad Gita to him and explained that someone just a few minutes before had sponsored this book, so he could take it.

Will was hesitant for a while, proving his sincere interest, but at the end agreed to take one.

Your servant,
Ananta-naga Dasa
