Muslim extremist takes a book

Krishna's mercy is powerful. I met a Muslim extremist on a college campus in Southern California. I showed him the Bhagavad Gita and explained the science for a minute or two. Unfortunately, he threw the Bhagavad Gita back at me and flatly refused it.

He began to shout, "This is bogus!"

I asked if he followed the Islamic tradition, and he said, "Yes, Allah is the only God!"

Krishna gave me intelligence at that moment. Instead of lashing back at him and defending the supremacy of the Bhagavad Gita, I countered him with supreme kindness. I had saved an Islamic prayer on my phone, also known as a nasheed. I actually really enjoyed the prayer, and I downloaded it from iTunes years ago. The lyrics were fully about devotional service.

I told the Muslim man, "Oh! I love your culture. In fact, I have a nasheed on my phone that I listen to!"

The man was shocked and said, "Really? You do?"

I said yes, and as I began playing the nasheed, the entire mood changed. His heart began to soften, and the rough-and-tough exterior disappeared.

He said, "You know, you're making an effort to learn my culture, so I can make an effort to learn yours."

He took the book. –
