Priceless Experiences on Book Distribution
It was the first time I've distributed the Bhagavad Gita — altogether a new and wonderful experience. Yesterday, I started distributing in my own block. My mother and I went door to door, yearning to tell others about the Gita's importance in our lives. A few people were welcoming and listened to us with interest. Some were less interactive.
A teenage girl was alone at home, so in the beginning she was hesistant to make the decision of buying BG for Rs.100. But in the next minute she said that she likes Lord Krsna and would buy the book anyhow. And then she told me that she's interested in joining the girls class too. I felt really happy to see her enthusiasm and love for Krsna.
The next meeting that touched me was with a gentle man who was returning from his office. I started telling him about the Gita.
He said, "I am a Muslim but I have read the Gita."
I was overwhelmed when he gave a donation with due respect to Krsna.
One experience was more like a challenge for us.
A man started questioning us: "Do you know what the Gita is? It is not the vani of Krsna. Everything written in it is taken from the Upanishads and Vedas. Lord Krsna told Arjuna what the rishis put in these earlier books."
I asked him, "Who told the rishis and munis about that"?
Many such arguments went on.
Then he said, "I believe that God is everywhere, and if you worship anything — a pebble or tree — it is equivalent to worshipping God."
Such arguments are difficult to handle, but in the end he bought a Gita from us, and I requested him to visit the temple where he could get answers to all his questions .
These experiences are priceless to me, as I have learned many things which were not known to me earlier. Coming out of a shell and going out to meet people of different mindsets and persuading or convincing them to read such a great book is appreciable, and I respect all those who have dedicated their lives to it.
Moreover, I respect Srila Prabhupad who has undergone such difficulties to give us comfort.
