Give up Suffering
I recently remembered an incident that happened a few years ago in New york. I was on a japa walk with Jayadvaita Swami, we had just left the Broklin temple when a police car pulled up next to us, one of the policemen asked, "hey what do ya have to give up to become a Hare Krsna". Jayadvaita Swami replied, "You have to give up suffering! "Well that sounds good"
"And if you want to know more about it then we have a temple just a couple of blocks down the street".
When we returned to the temple the devotees told us that two policemen came and bought some books.
Today Vaisesika Prabhu and myself left the Broklin temple to go to 26 second ave to distribute some books and have a program. Just as we were about to go down to the subway a man see's us and says, "Hare Krsna! Man you guys are like the light shinning in on a misguided disturbed society". Vaisesika Prabhu gave him a book and he was so happy to receive one of Prabhupada's books and give a donation.
Then he went on and on glorifying the devotees saying how wonderful the devotees are. I don't think I've ever met a non-devotee who was so appricitive of the devotee's.
