I felt like it was the right thing to do.
While visiting Denver, I went up to Fort Collins, just north of Denver, with some devotees to distribute books and chant at Colorado State University.
The students were exceptionally nice, taking Bhagavad-gitas enthusiastically. The devotees have a nice program there, every dayuesday. they have an attractive harinama, sitting down in the middle of the campus.
Fifty yards down the walkway I had a table full of Srila Prabhupada’s books. After the harinama and book distribution, we all went to a reserved room on campus where we held a bhajan, gave a talk on our philosophy, and distributed prasada.
As I was distributing books, I would give the students an invitation to the program. Two of the students I distributed books to came to the gathering.
One student I distributed a book to was sitting with me during prasada and said, “You know, after you gave that book to me and I gave a donation, as I walked away, I wondered ‘Why did I do that?’ and then I thought, ‘It felt like the right thing to do.'”
That was a nice question he asked himself and answered.
If we can get the mercy of Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu by having compassion on the conditioned souls, then they will feel like it’s the right thing to take a book and give us a donation. Not that I have the mercy, but compassion is something that I pray for on book distribution.
