Good results while getting out on book distribution while I can
I am currently working in Carterton, in the Wairarapa, about an eighty-minute drive from Wellington. The sankirtan here is great, and I have been trying to get out when I can. Yesterday, I finished work early (that rarely happens!) and took the opportunity to distribute books in a local supermarket car park. As usual, Lord Caitanya was very merciful and encouraging. Here are a few highlights.
I met a young Maori girl who had come to buy some food. I showed her the Science of Self Realisation and she was immediately attracted. Interestingly, it was her birthday. She had come in to buy ingredients to cook her own birthday dinner, and was delighted to take home a most special birthday gift after donating.
I stopped another young Maori lady as she was packing away her shopping. She was mildly interested but not overly enthusiastic. Suddenly the passenger door opened and out came her mother. The mother immediately challenged “What’s wrong?” — perhaps thinking that I was accosting her daughter. I calmly explained that I was sharing knowledge on inner peace. Immediately the mother relaxed and opened up saying, “I could do with some of that!”
As I presented the literature, she revealed her frustration at being ‘palmed off with pills’ during a consultation with a doctor (at a local practice) earlier in the day. She felt that no doctor would ever be able to really help her. As she gratefully retired back to her seat clutching a copy of Enough! magazine I smiled because of the situation. Krishna definitely has a sense of humour.
Last but not least I met Alex, a friendly, dreadlocked German who is currently developing a lifestyle block to demonstrate sustainable living. He has met devotees before and relished prasad on many occasions. I assisted him with transferring his shopping as we talked. Thereafter he was more than happy to donate and take Srila Prabhupada’s books. His picture is attached.
Srila Prabhupada ki jaya!
Your servant,
Caitanya Vihara Dasa
