GRATEFUL TO BE AN INSTRUMENT
Dear glorious marathon soul-diers, preaching in the trenches of Kali-yuga for Lord Caitanya’s pleasure,
Please accept my respectful obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
I was asked to send a few nectar bites from this marathon, so here are a few stories about how we are all playing a part in bringing others closer to Krsna, since we may not see the result of our efforts at the time.
I was inspired by a class by HG Bhrgupati Prabhu. He was sharing how he used to do sankirtana in NZ and named towns like Tauranga, Rotorua and Hamilton, places where we’ve been preaching this marathon. I realized how the ripe souls I’m meeting now are results of the hard work of so many devotees before me, who have purified these places and done so much yajna over the
years to share Srila Prabhupada’s books and inch each person closer to the Lord.
So now the stories.
I was in Tauranga and feeling very tired after lunch and lacking strong determination, but I pushed on. Then I walked around a corner of a car park and met Nick. When he saw the books, he lit up and told me he had gotten the Bhagavad Gita from a devotee in Tauranga 20 years ago. He’d read it and said it changed his whole life. He became vegetarian and even regularly chanted on beads an hour a day and still has the beads.
Over the years he lost touch with chanting Hare Krsna but now feels he’s hit a plateau. He does breathwork meditation but said it’s not the same as the spiritual connection he felt while chanting. He thought he’d read all there is to read and wanted more depth but couldn’t find it. So I showed him the Srimad Bhagavatam set and Krsna Book to assure him there is more knowledge available.
He lit up when he saw Krsna again and was in awe of the Bhagavatams. Unfortunately he was struggling a lot financially, so I gave him a Science of Self Realization and encouraged him to chant again and study the books he has.
He was so grateful and messaged me afterwards: “It was a blessing to meet you, Saumya. Thank you! I’m going to get back into my older meditation style, and I’ll let you know the difference it makes! You’ve reignited my desire for enlightenment.”
I pray Nick can come closer to Krsna again and that in the near future he can receive a full set of Srila Prabhupada’s books.
