Book Distrinution at Local Market In ISKCON Gurgaon
by Gaurang Agrawal
We were distributing books at our local market in Gurgaon and had some interesting encounters:
I showed a set of small books to one young man and explained about the contents in the books. He said he being an atheist, doesn’t want to read these religious books.
I argued that he has never been exposed to this subject matter and that’s why he feels that he is an atheist… these are not religious books but are books of knowledge….if he gives a try then he will benefit immensely. So many movies are released and we go to watch them even without knowing the contents. Out of these there are some which we find really nasty and there are some which interest us! Rs. 200 spent behind one movie lasts only 3 hours and the risk of movie being bad is always there! On the other hand we have these books of knowledge at half the cost, being read by people throughout the world without any distinction of caste and creed and they guide us throughout our life. There is absolutely no loss in giving little donation to take these books! He got interested in the discussion & said that you guys should have some basic books which prove the existence of God. I said we exactly have those books and showed him SSR & Beyond Illusion & Doubt…he got interested and purchased both these books.
Next incident was not such a happy ending! One person got interested in BG and asked me what is in that book…I was busy speaking to another couple and requested him to wait for few minutes! He waited for a minute and then said that he will come back! When he came back and passed us again he was very angry and commented that since you are very busy he will find someone else to get the Gita! We failed in sharing Srila Prabhupada’s mercy with one soul!
Next encounter was with one gentleman whom we showed some books! He said he will come again! But we knew that those who say we will come again are not coming so soon! We persisted that it’s a small donation and he will really get benefitted. He told that he is reading some book on Lord Ganesh and wants to finish it before he starts another book. We told him that there are 330 Million demigods….even if he worships one demigod per second then also he cannot worship all of them even once within a year! We informed him that there is one demigod called “Nimish” who controls the blinking function. If he displease “nimish” then he can’t even blink. But there is an easy way of pleasing all demigods. Since all demigods are devotees of Krishna, if we please Krishna all of them will be pleased. We told him that even Lord Ganesh is a great devotee of Krishna and in fact this Bhagwad Gita was written by Lord Ganesh on the dictation of Bhagvan Vyasdeva. Lord Ganesh will be most happy if he tries to serve Krishna. Finally, Srila Prabhupada was merciful and he took set of 5 small books!
All glories to Shrila Prabhupada!
