A lost love reawakened

Book DistributionAt Kensington Canada I met an older tired-looking lady. I thought she was homeless, as she had a grocery cart with several bags loaded up and a sickly dog on a leash. I approached her, though, because she stood totally spellbound looking at Rasa Mandali and Yogendra as they did kirtan on the street. She looked like she was crying.

I began showing her the Gita, and she became overwhelmed.

"I haven't heard the Hare Krishna chant for thirty years" she said, crying.

She took the book and deeply stared at it.

"You know us?" I asked.

"Yes." she said. "When I was sixteen I would go to the temple and sit down for a class and a kirtan. I went for a long time. I used to chant all the time. Then things got very hard and I lost touch with them and didn't go back. I'm so happy. I'm so happy."

I asked her whether she would take the Gita, and she gave me a donation.

She said, "You know, even though I totally lost touch, in my heart, deep down I knew Krishna. He was it. He was love, and He was God."

She stood and listened to the kirtan a little longer, then left.
