A Moment’s Association . . . Leads To Potent book distribution
Just a moment's association with an unadulterated book distributor is so valuable that one can be elevated to the same platform as him. In this particular case, I was able to distribute a book soon after reading an email from my friend at the Manor, Ananda Caitanya Prabhu, a powerhouse on book distribution.
After eating breakfast and then reading his email and chanting the rest of my rounds outdoors on sunny Inis Rath Island, I happened to be at the dock just after a boat arrived and two couples were disembarking.
They said, "We are Germans on vacation in Ireland, and we read about the Hare Krishna Island, so we have come to visit."
I asked whether they had communicated with anyone in advance (no), and whether they'd like to be guided around (no). So I suggested how they could take a self-guided walk. We talked for a few minutes about the people here on the island and what devotees do, and then they went walking.
Soon after, I cut a burfi into four pieces and took some books to the picnic table and waited for them. When they returned from the walk, I welcomed them to sit down and enjoy our hospitality: homemade fudge from the cows' milk.
I showed them three books. Being older and German-speaking, they related most enthusiastically to the book easiest to read: Chant and Be Happy, being already familiar with John Lennon and George Harrison. I asked for a small donation and each men gave me notes worth five euros and five pounds, respectively. Also, in German, I asked what their names are and told them mine. Finally, I sang a couple of lines of "My Sweet Lord" for them, and then we said good-bye.
