A Profound Realization
While my wife and I were visiting her family in Melbourne, we met a very nice boy called Julian from Germany. He was an unsuspecting and very fortunate soul who came to offer some service. He was a sales representative who came to our door to offer us a reduction of rates for electricity and power. Little did he know what Krsna would give him in return.
After he finished his service of giving us a discount, before he left, I casually chatted to him about meditation and spiritual culture. I happened to have some books in the car and I asked him if he would be interested to see them. He mentioned that he had been thinking about these things today. He seemed immediately attached to the books when he touched them. He was really interested but had only change so I offered to drive him to the ATM to get some money out.
After that, I had to drive him back to the neighbourhood as he had to continue his rounds of 'door-to-door'. One thing led to another and I ended up inviting him in for prasadam, much to the surprise amusement of my lovely wife who had just prepared it. It was a nice experience, casually chatting over some nectarean kitchori and home-made bread.
After prasadam, amidst Srila Prabhupada bhajans playing in the back ground, I demonstrated to him how to chant on beads. He looked with great determination at the mantra card and proceeded to chant softly and in an even tone. It was quite amazing to watch. After about 5 mantras, he said to me, 'I feel something different, like more awake.' He ended up leaving with Bhagavad Gita as it is, a stack of other books, a belly full of prasadam and a set of beads.
My realization was this: If I was in anyway neglectful of my service (which of course I am prone to do), this nice boy could have just walked away without receiving the mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Krsna seems to arrange everything, if we are ready to act on His behalf. I pray that my spiritual master bestows upon me enough intelligence to act that way in the future.
It was a very sweet, encouraging and inspiring experience. Thank you Krsna.
