A very unusual donation
What a great day for door-to-door sankirtana! One exchange really touched me.
A young, beautiful teenage girl of Caribbean descent opened the door. When I asked to see her parents, she said that they weren't home. Then she asked why I was there. I showed her the books in my hand and asked her whether she'd heard of yoga.
She looked at the books I had and wanted the one with the yogi on the picture (The Perfection of Yoga). I explained it a bit and asked whether she could give any donation at all. She said that she didn't have any money. I asked whether she had any food. She said she would look and soon came back and said there was nothing in the kitchen – her parents had gone to the grocery store.
Again I asked whether she had anything. She told me to hold on. She went looking around inside the house and came back to the door. With a beautiful heart-warming smile, she asked, “Can you take this?" and took her wrist bracelet. The bracelet said "Best Friends." At first I didn't know what to say, but when I realized that she had just asked Krishna to be Best Friends I felt stunned. He already is her Best Friend! It was a very unusual donation, but when I realized the enormity of the event, I couldn't help but smile inwardly. For all I am is just a messenger.
