ACLU Member Receives Ajnata Sukrti
Here's a fun one.
Our three-man party is on another traveling sankirtan excursion out of San Diego. A few days ago we were distributing books at Fresno State University in central California. Half way through the day we were approached by the Kazi's constables (disguised as university policemen) and told to stop what we were doing. As they were calling in our information over the radio, an excited student came over and started yelling at the police officers.
"Did they do something wrong!? Isn't this the free-speech area!? Why are you hassling these guys? I hope you know I'm recording this conversation right now."
I was definitely appreciating the scene, and I saw that our captors definitely didn't want to deal with this guy. They handed back our driver's licenses, told us to get a permit, and walked off. Our new friend came close and forcefully said, "Look, I don't know who you guys are or what you're doing here, but I support your right to do what you do! And I'll stand up for that right. Just let them arrest me so I can blast them. This is the free-speech area, man!"
We were grateful for the student's intervention, but we didn't want to contravene the policemen's order, so I thanked him without showing him the books. We took lunch and then went to the administration office to get our permits to distribute information on campus. Once I was back out distributing books, I saw our friend nearby passing out ACLU fliers. He was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and was fired up to fight "the man."
This time I showed him and his girlfriend the books. They were both really excited about what we were presenting. His girlfriend ran to an ATM, and then they both gave a donation and took a Bhagavad-gita and Science of Self-Realization.
It appears this ACLU vigilante cashed in his ajnata-sukrti (unknowingly acquired spiritual credit) not even an hour after receiving it. Just see Krishna's mercy at work.
