An unexpected switch
While I was distributing books at Balboa Park in San Diego, a couple came to my table. I made my presentation, and the girl showed some interest. I asked for a donation.
She said, “I don’t have any change.”
I responded, “I have change.”
Her boyfriend took the book from her to give it back to me and said, “No thanks. Not interested.”
I said, “Your girlfriend is interested in some wisdom. To interfere with her getting this wisdom is bad karma.”
I handed the book back to her and said, “Give whatever you can, I have change.”
The boyfriend then said, “I have change.” He took out his wallet to give a donation.
I said to him, “You can’t put a price on wisdom, but typically people are giving anywhere between $20 and $30.
He looked through his wallet and found $20.
She said, “No, no.”
He gave $20 and they got the books.
This was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had on book distribution. She started out wanting the book; he didn’t want it at all. He ended up giving the donation and she’s saying “No, no” as they got the book.
A real switch!
