Book Distribution at Los Angelos
I went to the Western Union office in Culver City (this is where our temple in Los Angeles is) to inquire about a transaction. The lady behind the counter gave me a big smile and said she really liked my neckbeads. I took the opportunity to tell her that I'm a monk. and I described our temple, Govinda's restaurant, our Bhakti House for visitors and so on. She showed so much enthusiasm, and she was surprised she didn't know anything about us even though she lives close to the temple.
Before I left the place I gave her Srila Prabhupada's book Dharma: The Way Of Transcendence. She was glad to receive it.
The next day I again to the same office to complete the transaction. There was a man behind the counter this time.
As soon as he saw me dressed in a dhoti, he asked, "Were you the monk who gave my colleague a book yesterday?"
I said yes.
He said, "There were not many customers this morning, and my phone broke, so I couldn't play video games. I saw the book Dharma, and I started reading it. The book is really amazing. It's the first religious book in my life that made so much sense. Do you have any more books? Can you give me one, too? I really want to dig it.
I went to my car and brought him a Science Of Self Realization and a invitation to our center.
I'm planning to go see him with some prasada and see if he has any questions.
It's amazing that many times we give a book to someone and someone else ends up reading it and becomes a devotee.
Moral of the story: Don't hold back distributing the mercy like anything.
Your Servent,
Shastra Krit Das
