Book Distribution out of chowpatti India
"Bhakta Anand Renuke Prabhu had made nice arrangements for book distribution in his own industrial unit in Sewree. We were trying to attract the attention of people passing by in steady streams but to no avail! We were not able to distribute even small books in significant numbers and thought to ourselves with some disappointment that we did not have the mercy of Srila Prabhupada to distribute books in the locality of Sewree. We were expecting good sales during the lunch period, when more people are on the streets but this did not happen. Several cars were passing by neglecting our book-counter. One car passed by driven by a chauffeur with the owner sitting at the back. Since the windows of the car were closed, all we could do was to offer our "namaskar" and gesticulated with our hands, requesting him to come to our counter.
The car went ahead a few blocks and we forgot all about it. Just when we were about to leave the gentleman who had driven past in his chauffeured car came to us and said, "You are struggling to sell books here but nobody will buy. Why don't you come to my Institute?" He then gave his card, which indicated that he was Sri Bharwani, Jt. Managing Director of Jet King Infotrain! I introduced myself as Vrishbhanu Das, former Head of University Department of Chemistry. Sri Bharwani said, "I will subsidize the cost of all books sold in my Institute by 50%. Why don't you come just now and address students and the staff. You can fix a date and come again for distributing books." We felt that Srila Prabhupad's mercy had crystallized and come to us in a miraculous way after our depressing efforts to distribute books! I accompanied Sri Bharwani to his Institute and addressed the staff and a group of students. The next day, with the ungrudging help from Kirtida and Anand Prabhu and subsequently from Vidyapati Prabhu, we were able to distribute 136 books including 6 Krishna books, 27 Bhagwad Geetas and 13 SSRs.
The experience established once and for all that Srila Prabhupad and The Supreme Lord Krishna Himself induce people to buy books. We can at best try to be humble instruments!
