Butcher’s Material life Butchered

Journey of Self-Discovery

I was going door to door in Hamilton with Bhakta Christian and we went to a house where we met Quinton. He was a young man (mid 20s) and a father of three. He supported his family by being a butcher at a local slaughterhouse (or freezer works as they call them in New Zealand), where, he told me, they kill 2700 calves per day. For this he gets a thousand dollars per week. He mentioned that at another slaughterhouse in the Waikato/Hamilton area they kill 3000 bobby calves per day (bobby means orphan, or taken away from their mothers after birth).

I prayed that this guy gets the mercy. Despite my straight forwardness in talking about karma and that wonderful and striking picture of the man with a cow’s head and the cow with a man’s head, Quinton was in a good mood and gave a donation and took a Journey of Self-Discovery. I told him to read the ‘Slaughterhouse Civilization’ part last. The mercy of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, ki jaya!

Your servant,
Damodara Krsna Dasa
