Devotees Turn Krishna’s Messengers – Widely distribute Bhagavad Gita As It Is
Hare Krishna Land is abuzz with activity in relation to the distribution of Bhagavad Gita that shall continue for the entire month of December. Every December, devotees at ISKCON across the world distribute Bhagavad Gita As It Is and several other spiritual books published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust on Gita Jayanti day and as part of the book distribution Marathon.
Bhagavad gita is the transcendental dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna spoken at the battlefield of Kurushetra almost 5000 years ago. The Bhagavad Gita is organized in 18 chapters and contains 700 verses. In its true meaning, the work ‘yoga’ means ‘the process of linking’. It refers to the process of linking ourselves and our activities to the Supreme Lord. Bhagavad Gita answers questions regarding the existence of the body and soul, material and spiritual world, duties of man and much more. Anyone who reads the Bhagavad Gita daily is assured of spiritual advancement and knowledge.
Since the beginning of 2011, ISKCON’s publishing house, Bhaktivedanta Book Trust began the printing of more than 14 lakh copies of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is in five languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil and Telagu that are now available for distribution. Devotees and staff members toiled since several months to publish, print and stock the books at a massive godown at ISKCON Juhu from where the Bhagavad Gita is dispatched throughout Maharastra, Gujarat, Karnataka, etc for distribution.
This year, besides donating the Bhagavad Gita As It Is to 24 jails across Gujarat State prison, devotees and congregation members hope to distribute more than 1.5 lakh Bhagavad –gita As It Is to citizens of Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. During the last week of November 2011, several devotees left for remote parts of Maharashtra in their travelling bus with thousands of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is and other spiritual literature. A large number of devotees and congregation members shall reach out to the citizens of Mumbai through stalls and outlets at various railways station and other public places.
