Door to Door in Singapore
by Sudarshan Dasa
I have always felt that by going on book distribution, Krishna and Srila Prabhupada make the arrangements for the books to go out. Last week while I was on sankirtan in Singapore, it was really a tough day and nobody was taking the books. I persevered and kept going–meditating that ‘today is a day of purification' and the more people say 'no' it will be an opportunity to purify my anarthas and develop qualities conducive for my spiritual life.
As I knocked on one door, a Chinese man opened it. I was already imagining him saying 'no' and waving me away. But he looked at the book and called his wife, asking her to take and read it. His wife looked through the book and said she could not understand it. By Krishna's arrangement, he started to encourage her to read the book, by saying how nice the book was. I could not believe my ears! Finally she just closed the book and returned it to me saying that she had no time to read it. At that moment, her daughter who seemed to be about 7 years old, intervened and said "You have time to watch TV, but you have no time to read the book?" She spoke in a manner as if she was scolding her mother. The mother surrendered, and then acceptedThe Science of Self Realization.
Amazing incidents that happen like this on sankirtan encourage me to go on doing my little bit for Srila Prabhupada, inspite of the austerities. I pray to all the Vaishnavas to give me your mercy so that I can continue to engage in Srila Prabhupada's book distribution mission.
