From Peru I went to Guyana
Hare Krishna,
Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada!
I was invited to Guyana a couple of years ago when I met some Guyanese devotees at the Chowpatti temple. There were around ten brahmacaris visiting India, and I was surprised to see so many brahmacaris from one temple. In all of South America there is no temple that has as many brahmacaris.
There are three beautiful temples in Guyana, and one of them has an interesting story behind it.
There was a devotee who would regularly visit a gas station; he befriended the owner and eventually started telling him about Krishna's teaching in the Bhagavad-gita. The owner found it interesting and bought some books that he'd regularly read. They would discuss philosophy whenever the devotee stopped to get gas.
The owner keenly caught the message of Krsna and decided that the best thing he could do was build a temple for Krsna. So that's what he did. He built a large temple right behind his gas station.
On the sign in the front of the gas station is the name of the station, called GUY OIL. Just above the words is a beautiful picture of dancing Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai. This gas station has to be the most transcendental gas station in the world.
Here in Guyana, too, I went out on book distribution with a good number of devotees. Guyana has to be one of the best places to distribute books. Practically no one said no. The people were so nice that it was a pleasant surprise.
At one place I showed the Bhagavad-gita to a store owner, showing pictures and explaining. Then I asked for a donation. He took the book and gave one. I was with a couple of devotees showing them how I do it. After we left the store, the devotees were shocked that that man took a book because his father hates the devotees, and the son knows this. Another pleasant surprise!
Your servant,
Vijaya Dasa
