James mother invest in his good fortune
Hare Krsna,
Recently, in Wellington, during our community sankirtan day a discussion started about people meeting devotees again and again.
After hearing and discussing this others, I was more aware of people taking books after various encounters. Here is just one of many examples.
I was in Marewa, a very small shopping street in Napier (a small city on the North Island). I began talking with a Maori lady, who told me her son James was interested in this sort of thing, and I sifted around to understand what she meant. She confirmed: "Krishna."
“How can I meet your son?”
She told me that they were meeting here in the next couple of hours for lunch. In the next few hours, three Maori boys passed by. I asked whether any of them were named James. I was very eager to meet someone "into Krishna".
Soon the mother returned and said, “I explained you to my son. Well, he actually met you last week in Taupo and got a book off you.”
They soon met up at a cafe, near where I was, and sat at a table outdoors.
After waiting a while, I approached and pulled up a chair. James slowly opened up and explained that he bought Chant and Be Happy. He owns many of our books, which he got from other devotees. He is twenty-nine and very frustrated with life. He wants a solution to the madness in the world and within himself. As I explained Krishna consciousness, his mother sympathetically agreed and encouraged him to take the help of Krishna consciousness.
Responding postively to whatever I said, she nodded and said something like, “This will be really be good for you, James.”
When I showed him the Teachings of Lord Caitanya, his mom right away handed me the money for it.
I felt inspired (by Ananda Candra’s example of giving out a few meditation kits right on the street) to give him a meditation kit, and since then he has started chanting. Also, I discovered he’s an incredible artist, so we're hoping to engage his artistic skills.
So many people waiting for us to meet them!
All glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga!
Your servant,
Gokula Lila-devi Dasi
