Sri Sri Rukmini Dvarakadisa

DISTRIBUTOR OF THE WEEK KRISHNA ON “KWKW” AT 1330 AM By Mahat-tattva dasa

Mr. Juan Carlos Molina is a financial advisor and Jaya Gauranga Prabhu was his client. Their first contact was over the phone when they agreed to meet at Jaya Gauranga’s apartment at 3744 Watseka Ave. at New Dvaraka. Mr. Carlos was 15 minutes early so he walked up and down the street waiting for Jaya Gauranga. As the doors to the temple of Sri Sri Rukmini Dvarakadisa were opened he looked in and was amazed with what he saw inside: the glowing beauty of the Deities, large paintings depicting Lord Krishna’s and Lord Caitanya’s pastimes, Srila Prabhupada on an opulent vyasasana etc.

After his business conversation with Jaya Gauranga, Mr. Carlos, still bearing the strong impression of the temple in his mind, asked him a lot of questions about the temple and Krishna consciousness. Conversation continued for some hours. Mr. Carlos still had a lot of questions, but it was late at night (11.00 pm) and he had to leave. He revealed to Jaya Gauranga that he was a manager of a Spanish radio station and invited him to give a two hour presentation of Krishna consciousness on his radio station KWKW.

The show was early in the morning, from 3—5 am, and was very successful. Afterwards many listeners called to ask questions about the ISKCON and our philosophy. Mr. Carlos liked the show very much and wanted to make it a regular thing. In the beginning they were doing one show a week but eventually increased it up to today’s 4 shows a week.

Each program starts with the song Govindam ädi-puruñaà. At the end of each show Jaya Gauranga Prabhu gives several free books (sponsored by Sastra Dana program) to whoever calls first. Prabhu told me that whenever he would announce the books, the radio station computer would register literally hundreds of incoming phone calls. As the interest of listeners and number of distributed Srila Prabhupada’s Spanish Bhagavad-gitas was increasing, Jaya Gauranga decided to start a thorough study of Bhagavad-gita As It Is over the radio.

The result of the radio program is that now there are 7-8 families and about 20 individuals, some regularly and others occasionally, visiting the temple of Sri Sri Rukmini Dvarakdisa, chanting Hare Krishna maha-mantra on beads, offering pure vegetarian food to Srila Prabhupada, studying Srila Prabhupada’s books and talking to others about the new life-style they have just discovered.

Just recently Jaya Gauranga Prabhu was invited by another Spanish radio station to do a 3 hour presentation of Krishna consciousness. Let us wish him a good luck, if the show meets success many more wonderful things could happen.

Jaya Gauranga Prabhu joined ISKCON in 1970 and in 1975 was initiated by Srila Prabhupada, first and second initiation. He came to New Dvaraka in 1971.
