Meeting drunks
Today I started very late from my office and came running to the metro station, fearing that I might miss the last metro. There was only one person on the platform at that hour. I sought his attention to show him the books, and he immediately said that he is drunk and cannot take the books. I told him that he can get these books for a small donation to the temple and he will immensely benefit by doing so.
This triggered a conversation, and he asked me whether I can help him get rid of the habit of drinking. I told him that he can develop a higher taste by chanting the holy names of Krishna and become fearless by developing more faith in the mercy of Krishna. Many, many people have successfully gotten rid of their bad habits by this formula, and he is no exception. He became very happy and hopeful. He learnt the method of chanting from me and also took the books.
This is the second time in a week that I met a drunk person during book distribution. Both persons were struggling to come out of their bad habits, and both were pious enough to take a set of books. May Srila Prabhupada bless them with a taste of Krishna so that they remain high forever in the pure devotional service of Krishna.
