Overcoming resistance
“Hare Krishna! Can I have a few minutes of your time, please?”
A man looking at the Gita in my hand says, “Sorry, not interested in religion.”
“Fine. Can I ask you a question?”
“If it’s not related to religion.”
“Just want to know the meaning of religion. What do you think it is?”
“Sorry. It’s a question related to religion.”
“Why are you so conscientious not to accept any religious thoughts or discussions?”
“First tell me, have you seen God?”
“With our imperfect senses, how can one see the perfect one? And forget God for a second (though that’s the most unfortunate second): If I take off your specs, can you tell what’s written on that advertisement?”
“Not clearly, that’s why I wear specs.”
“What to speak of God, then! How can we expect to see Him with these limited senses? However, this doesn’t mean that God does not exist.
“If He wants, He can reveal Himself. And why will He choose a person to revealed Himself to? If you are REMEMBERING Him. Are you CHANTING his name? Do you have SADHU-SANGA? Are you studying the Gita? Sorry for asking questions that you are not interested in. But time is taking your every breath, and before it’s your last breath in this human form, start remembering God and developing love for the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is what religion means. Take this Gita and start studying from this day. This is the merciful Song of God, the immortal one.”
“It is very hard for me to digest what’s written in . . .”
“No, wait please! Pray for the Lord’s mercy, then nothing will be hard to digest.”
“Let me tell you, it’s very difficult for me. Maybe some time later.”
“Right now you have the rare human form, and you are educated enough to study the Gita. So what’s the difficulty? Just grab this copy, before death grabs your body!”
“I don’t know, what to do. . . . OK, let’s give it a start!”
“Jaya! One who gives it a START, he actually becomes a STAR.”
