Prema Sankirtana
In ISKCON we sometimes experience a real loving exchange. We go to a house, and they welcome us with a lot of prasada. We refuse at first, out of love, but they insist that we take more. We give in, though we wanted more prasada the whole time, and then a loving mood is created. I've also had this experience on book distribution. I'll meet a nice person, we have a great exchange, and then they give an unexpected big donation. I'm overwhelmed, and I tell them to take more books. They refuse at first, but finally take another one. Now they're overjoyed; they pull out their wallet again to give me another donation. This time I refuse, saying, No, keep your money; this is a gift. They insist: No no, please take it. They finally give me the donation, and it creates a loving atmosphere. I believe that this is prema-sankirtan.
The most important aspect of book distribution is how the person feels as he or she walks away. A smile is worth more than any donation. Favorable impressions is what keeps our movement going. Let's continue to spread it far and wide.
