One black girl approached me while I was speaking to a person to take a book. I requested her, "Please wait a minute I just have to finish here first…" She humbly agreed and was waiting.
When I finished I turned my head toward her. She said, "Where have you people been? I've been waiting for you for such a long time (this is the advantage of book distribution in a dhoti, people recognize you from a distance). Do you have Bhagavad-gita?"
She was coming from a family with African Rastafarian background. Her sister, mother and friend were also interested in spiritual things and Bhagavad-gita. I told her Bob Marley also got the books. She was especially interested in the English edition of the Gita which I did not have. So I gave her the Science of self realization and Beyond illusion and doubt which I had in English. I gave her my e-mail and promised that I will bring her Bhagavad Gita in the future. For a few days she mailed me requesting again for the Gita.
We made an appointment and she took two Gita's. One in English for her and one in Dutch for her friend. I also brought some Prasadam to give her. She became more interested. I kept contact through e-mail with her. When it was time for the Govardhana puja festival I invited her and she came with her sister and were happily dancing around Govardhana Hill in kirtan. After that we kept contact through e-mail and sent her more invitations. Because Utrecht became my favorite place for book distribution I always let her know when we were going to come again and she took new books because she's quite a reader. She also had many intelligent questions. When she visited the temple again she bought Japa mala and Srimad Bhagavatam. I gave her as a present a book from H. H. Bhakti Vikas Swami, 'Beginners in Krsna consciousness.' She was happy to receive it promising that she will practice. And she is doing it.
