Spanish treasures
Hare Krsna,
Today at the office, it was just another normal day, and I was between patient cases . . . until a lady peered through my office door, which was half ajar.
She said, "Oh, I see, you are the one with the Bhagavad Gita!"
It turns out she is an Registered Nurse who works for the family-doctor group in my building. She is there on Fridays when I am at another location. She was referring to the BGAII that sits on display on my desk.
It is hard to not notice it. Anytime a person walks into my office room it can be seen. She said that she's been reading the BG, but it was obviously not the BBT version. I made out that she is Spanish.
Just a few days ago I bought a case of Spanish BBT books for my office patients who are Spanish. Some have been asking for Spanish Srila Prabhupada books. I quickly opened the new box of Spanish books and put some into her hands. Her wide open eyes stared at the "Spanish treasures".
I had to get back to my patients. Later, during a bit of free time, I went back to her to ask how she got interested in the Gita. She said she lives in Burlington & visits the Vaisno Devi Mandir in Oakville. She is aware of Ganesh, Hanuman, Shiva, etc through a yoga teacher she met years ago in her home country, Cuba. While trying to learn about various yoga asanas, she was asked by her yoga teacher to approach the gods for their blessings. Hence she inquired locally & found the Devi Mandir. I told her that I go to the Hare Krsna Mandir in Toronto & she is most welcome to come there & attend BG classes.
She sounded genuinely interested and said she'll come. In that half hour span, she quietly said to me, she had glanced through SP's books between patients, when she was supposed to dedicate her full time and attention to them. She could not put the books down.
"There is something in them," she said, as though she felt an immediate transformation go through her body.
Srila Prabhupada's Book Marathon, ki jai!
Your menial servant,
Jaganatha Misra Dasa
