Students Flock to a Book Table
We just spent a wonderful hour during our lunchtime distributing Srila Prabhupada's most precious books to many students in Silicon Valley.
A boy named Brendon from South Africa came to our table and asked whether we are Vaishnavas. He said that he already has a Gita, given to him by his father, but wanted to get a copy of each of the other books we had.
The first girl I met and showed the SSR was reluctant to touch it. So I asked her which book looked more attractive to her. She said the orange one. That happened to be the Gita. After having a short conversation with us, she and her friend took all the books we had.
A lady said, “I have been actually looking for something to do about the stress I face at work.”
She took all the books.
An English teacher also took books, saying it would help her meditation practice; she gave a good donation.
A boy from Iran took all the books and gave twenty. A girl from Pakistan took the books. She was quite open in discussing meditation and said she will read the books. One Japanese lady was quoting the Gita and encouraging others at the table to take books.
Another girl was trying to find peace of mind. She stopped by the table and wanted to take books and gave us a lot as a donation. Both she and her friend chanted and were happy.
Just when we were almost finished packing, a Mexican girl came and got all the books. When she gave her card for “square reader,” Madhav Govinda Prabhu kept just $16.16, saying it is a good number. She nonchalantly said that thirty is a good number. She said that next week she has her birthday and so she wanted to give more.
We were there for just an hour, and it was by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and with the constant encouragement of Vaisesika Prabhu that we welcomed the students flocking around our book table, eager to receive a book.
