The Kindness of Devotees

Krsna Book

Alexy and I were at Ryerson University today. It was extremely windy and snow flakes were tearing across our eyeballs. It very hard to stop anyone. But one lady stopped, and she said she had met us before and had our books.

Amazed, I asked her how.

She said that twenty years ago she was a homeless, hungry kid, and now she is a professor at Ryerson University and she cannot forget how, when she was in need, a devotee kindly gave her a copy of Chant and Be Happy, which she read and carried with her through all the struggles in her life. She visited ISKCON Toronto and was fed sumptuously, and she could never forget it.

With excitement mixed with gratitude, we told her that Steve Jobs as a student was also hungry when we fed him. We showed her the Krsna book, and she deeply appreciated the pictures and said she would take it. I asked her for a donation, and she went to the ATM and got a very generous donation for the book and took it with her.

It was such a strong reminder that sankirtan is really on the absolute platform: Everything you do effects someone on a very deep level.
