The mercy of Lord Caitanya
I was distributing books on Lincon Road a corner of shops in Auckland New Zealand. Many people were taking books.Coming towards me where two young boys, I concluded before stopping them that they were either on drugs or depressed, need I describe more of there morbid expressionless faces. As we talked I discovered they were brothers 15+16 and due to circumstances were best friends, they didn't really have much shelter other than each other. They were simple gentle boys. Thinking of them makes me realize how lucky am I to have the protection of Krsna and His devotees, any struggle in Krsna consciousness is a sweet struggle not worthy of complaints. They explained to me they lived with their Grandmother, who because of old age had just recently broken both her feet, now these two teenage boys had to do everything for themselves and their elderly Grandmother.I inquired about their parents. Brace yourself, this is the reality of Kali yuga. Their mother one day left and never came home, where she went or is now the boys to this day have no idea. Their father after repeated heart attacks, depression and anxiety… at this point the younger brother stopped speaking and turned to the other boy, who completed the sentence, 'took his own life.'
Somehow, by the mercy of Mahaprabhu, and I think the fact I showed a little interest in these boys, they gave $15 and took a Bhagavad-Gita. How else was I to help them get out of such a terribly lonely empty life? Showing pity is not enough, the only possible way to help anyone is encouraging them to get the mercy of Lord Caitanya just as we have been helped.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
