The Proper Medicine
Nityananda das from Oporto, Portugal, sent me this appreciation of book distrbution, and it is so beautiful that I thought to share it with you.
Hare Krishna.
Your servant, Giriraj Swami
Dear Guru Maharaja,
To continue book distribution I have to regulate myself in terms of having time to chant my rounds properly and read, rest, and eat nicely, and this is very good for me. No other activity can help me to regulate my life. Dear Guru Maharaja, book distribution is like a therapy for me. Every day I go out on the streets I feel as if I am going to the doctor. The doctor is the all-merciful Lord Caitanya, who gives the proper medicine to cure the disease. Every day He prescribes the same process to improve my life: be humble and have patience, determination, and enthusiasm, to recover your health. When I have a relapse, meaning when I fall into the mood of being the enjoyer, Lord Caitanya gives the proper medicine so I can recover again. Sharing the knowledge contained in Srila Prabhupada's books means giving Srila Prabhupada to people, and that activity gives me a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day that no other activity gives me. If my life can improve on all levels of human existence by following the prescribed method given by the original therapist, through disciplic succession, why not the lives of other people?
I feel very fortunate and grateful to have this tendency of going out on book distribution, and I don't want to spoil this opportunity by involving myself in faultfinding and criticism. Please, dear Guru Maharaja, give me the strength and ability to avoid detrimental activities, so I can better serve you.
I remain you eternal servant,
Nityananda das
