Where there is Krishna, there is Laxmi
March 6th, around noon — a beautiful sun mercifully threw its warm rays on us. Sweat melodious harinama enchanted the hearts of people in the downtown.
I was distributing books, prasada, and invitations.
About thirty meters from the harinama, I saw a middle-aged woman attentively listening and watching the harinam.
With a smile I approached her and offered her kind words and prasada.
“No thank you. I don’t need anything,” she said.
“It’s a gift for you,” I replied.
“Really, it’s a gift for me?”
“Yes, no need to pay.” She accepted prasada.
I added, “Gifts are the most expensive.”
“What can I give you in return?”
“You already gave me your valuable time, but if you want, you can give me whatever is the best you can.”
She started searching her pockets, then her backpack, and finally she found a package of buttons. She opened the package and gave me half.
“Will that be ok for you?”
“Yeees.” And I thought, This is an unusual exchange: prasada for buttons.
Then we separated, and I continued.
After some time she returned and said, “You are right. Gifts are the most expensive.”
She gave me an envelope. I looked inside a first time, then a second time, and also a third time. I thought it was a joke. Inside was five hundred euros (about $600 US). I looked at her and wanted to give her something more.
She said, “No need. Everything is ok. He knows.” And she left.
Yes, Krishna knows everything. Param vijate sri krishna sankirtan!
Hare Krishna!
Your servant,
Lomancita Dasa
