Wicker Park
Dear Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Recently while distributing in the Wicker Park district of Chicago i encountered some very nice interactions. the first encounter exhibited timing. I parked my jeep that had some for sale signs on it and seeing some police officers there i asked them some questions about a city ordinance that forbids sale signs on cars. After discussing with them i walked back to the vehicle and there was a man there looking at the for sale sign. Then after telling him about the car i proceeded to heap the Bhagavad gitas into my arms and the bag of Perfection of Yoga around my shoulder.
Then climbing up the curb the first person i saw was a lady whom in mid-stride i stopped. I handed her the book and she asked, "are you selling them or giving them away". I told her that i work for the publisher and we only accept donations. She walked to the wall and put her book atop an ATM machine(money machine). I was thinking okay were going somewhere now because people usually go to the ATM for a large sum to donate.
This is time to tell you! She then turned to me and asked if she could buy all ten there that i had. Then she proceeded to tell me how she needs fifteen…oh boy@! Pointing to the vehicle i tell her that i have a whole case. She tells me to go her office around the corner and seeing the two of us drove there so the books can be brought right in. While in the car i tell her that this is what we as book distributors dream of.
I brought the Gitas in and noticing one missing i went back to the vehicle. While there the new Krsna Art book aka The Art of Transendence looked good to take also so there it was. I brought in the last Gita and the Art book showed them to her and sealed a deal for five dollars a piece for the Gitas and one hundred and eight for the Art of Transendence! Totaling 183 dollars for the first person i met and then i called it a day as it was already late in the day, HAribol!
